The Higgins To Perform at Country 107.1 Breakfast Broadcast
December 11, 2009

The Higgins will be performing along with Damian Marshall and AJ Woodworth at Country 107.1's Christmas Breakfast & Broadcast. Steve Fanning will be broadcasting the More Music Morning Show live from Rockwell's Bar & Grill in Mission, BC.

Country 107.1 will be collecting donations for the Mission Christmas Bureau, and there will be free coffee and a light breakfast for everyone who brings down a donation.

Announced this morning by JRFM's Waking Crew - Clay St.Thomas and Karen Daniels - The Higgins will be performing along with Aaron Pritchett, Jessie Farrell and Paul Brandt at the annual Basics for Babies Breakfast.

This great fundraiser will be held at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel in Surrey, BC. Admission to the Breakfast is by donation to Basics for Babies and includes a complimentary continental breakfast. The Higgins will be performing 2 songs at 6:00am. Watch out country karaoke hopefuls- our sister Kat is joining the judging panel on this week's episode of Karaoke Star on CMT! Also joining her to critique this round is our good friend Aaron Pritchett. The finals are being held in gorgeous Banff, AB, and will air this Thursday night at 8 pm Pacific, with encore showings TBA.

Back in BC, we're getting ready for the BCCMA Awards, happening this coming weekend. We'll be performing at the Director's Awards Saturday night, and then on the Sunday Awards Show at the Red Robinson Theatre, where we'll be debuting a brand new song!! BCCMA Awards Nominations Announced
September 2, 2009

The B.C. Country Music Association (BCCMA) just released the list of nominees for it's 33rd Annual Awards Show, and we're stunned to find out that The Higgins and team are included in an amazing 14 different categories! This is a little overwhelming and a huge compliment considering it's coming from our music industry peers in our own home province!

We've been nominated as a group for Entertainer of The Year, Fan's Choice Award, Group/Duo of The Year, Single of The Year (for Second Hand Car), Traditional Country, Roots/Canadiana, and SOCAN Song of The Year! Plus, John is nominated for All-Star Band (guitar) and Eileen for Special Instrument (mandolin).

In addition, two of our band members - Kyle Radomsky and Dennis Marcenko - are nominated for Drums and Bass respectively, and our producers Paul Shatto and David Wills are up for Producer of The Year. Also, Stephano Barberis is up for Video Director of The Year for Real Thing, and our webmaster Maria Higgins is up for Web Designer of The Year.

To top it off, we've been asked to perform on the show as part of a killer lineup, which includes Crystal Shawanda, Aaron Pritchett, Jessie Farrell, Ridley Bent, One More Girl and Jaydee Bixby.

The main Awards Show will be held Sunday evenin,g October 25th, at the Red Robinson Theatre in Coquitlam, with the Industry Awards the night before at The George Preston Centre in Langley. The Higgins to Perform at FanFest
August 22, 2009

The Higgins are confirmed to perform at FanFest for the Canadian Country Music Week celebrations. FanFest is an all-day free event that will be held at Granville & Robson Street in downtown Vancouver. The Higgins will join 15 other Canadian acts including Deric Ruttan, Tara Oram, Doc Walker, Johnny Reid, Jason Blaine and many more!

The Higgins Nominated for 3 CCMA Awards!

We're elated to get the news that we've been given three nominations in the 2009 CCMA's! The categories are GROUP/DUO OF THE YEAR, ROOTS ARTIST OF THE YEAR, and SPECIAL INSTRUMENT (Eileen for mandolin). Also, our good friend Stephano Barberis is nominated as DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR for the video of our single, 'Second Hand Car'!

Earlier, we got word that we've been nominated for COUNTRY RECORDING OF THE YEAR for our CD 'Real Thing' at this year's Western Canada Music Awards, to be held in Brandon MB in September.

The Higgins Nominated for Western Canada Music Award

Delta, B.C.'s roots/country sibling act The Higgins are thrilled to be nominated for Country Recording of The Year for their CD 'Real Thing' at this year's Western Canada Music Awards, to be held in Brandon, MB in September.

This year's Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA's) are being held in Vancouver September 10th-13th, and The Higgins will be participating in several events - including the annual Fanfest. Exact venues and times will be announced soon!

The Higgins Get a Star in Merritt
July 17, 2009
John, Eileen and Kathleen were recently honored prior to their Merritt Mountainfest performance by having their handprints added to that town's Walk Of Stars attraction. The event was filmed by CMT, and will be included in the Chevy Cross Canada Countdown.

The Higgins To Hit the Road With CMT!

We can finally spill the beans to all of you! As officially announced this week, we'll be joining our friends Jason Blaine and Tara Oram on an 18-date, cross-country tour sponsored by CMT! "CMT On Tour" will be working its way from West to East, starting in Kamloops, B.C. on May 27th, and concluding in Halifax on June 18th.

We'll be playing our favorites from our Real Thing CD, plus a sneak preview from our new CD which we start recording in the spring. Jason and Tara will be playing their hits for you, too, and we may even join together for a couple of songs! The Higgins are nominated for a 2009 Indie (Independent Music Award) for "Favourite Country Artist/Group". Their fellow nominees include Aaron Pritchett, Doc Walker, Gord Bamford, and Tara Oram. The awards will be held March 14, 2009 at the Canadian Room in the Royal York Hotel, and broadcast live to air on xm satellite radio.

The Higgins are nominated for a CRMA (Canadian Radio Music Award) in the category of Best Country Artist or Group. Their fellow nominees include Crystal Shawanda, Jaydee Bixby, Ridley Bent, and Tara Oram. The CRMA press release states, "Canada's hottest music stars will be honoured at the 2009 Canadian Radio Music Awards (CRMA). The Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) presents the 12th Annual Canadian Radio Music Awards on Friday, March 13th at 12:30 pm at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, as part of the Canadian Music Week celebrations."

Unfortunately, due to schedule conflicts, The Higgins will not be able to join the tour as originally planned. The Higgins Christmas CDs

The Higgins have their Christmas CD, "Coming Home For Christmas" available for purchase on the website, and now they are part of another compilation Christmas album. Here are the official details:

On October 28th, Open Road Recordings released Christmas on the Open Road. This album features seasonal hits from artists like Tara Oram, Jaydee Bixby, The Higgins, Doc Walker and many more.

Also featured are two brand new exclusive tracks from Multi-Platinum artist Taylor Swift, entitled "Christmases When You Were Mine" and "Christmas Should Be So Much More".

Jaydee Bixby Tour Post-Poned
November 3, 2008
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
Country recording artist Jaydee Bixby announced today he is postponing his western Canadian tour dates due to a chronic ear infection which flared up during the Ontario leg of his cross-Canada "Taking Care of Business" tour, in support of his debut cd "Cowboys and Cadillacs".

Bixby saw a doctor in Toronto on October 23, who diagnosed the chronic ear infection which has blocked hearing in one ear, and which has caused Bixby a considerable amount of pain and discomfort. Under doctor's recommendation, the western dates will be re-scheduled for January 2009. The postponed dates [that include The Higgins] are as follows:

- November 9 Memorial Centre, Red Deer **POSTPONED**
- November 10 Knox United Church, Calgary **POSTPONED**
- November 11 Myer Horowitz Theatre, Edmonton **POSTPONED**
- November 12 Rock City, Grande Prairie **POSTPONED**
- November 14 Harmony Hall, Redcliff, AB **POSTPONED**
- November 16 Kelowna Community Centre, Kelowna **POSTPONED**
- November 20 Massey Theatre, New Westminster, BC **POSTPONED**

Fans who have purchased tickets for any of the postponed shows may hold on to them and exchange them for new tickets once rescheduled dates are announced, or return to point of purchase for a refund.

The group is up for eight collective awards- Entertainers of the Year, Group/Duo of the Year, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, SOCAN Songwriters of the Year, Roots/Canadiana Act of the Year, and also Video and Website of the Year!

The individual categories include Guitar player of the Year (John), Special Instrument of the Year (Eileen for mandolin), Producer of the Year (David Wills/Paul Shatto), Bass Player (Dennis Marcenko) and Drummer (Kyle Radomsky).

The Higgins are among the featured performers at this year's BCCMA Awards Show, to be held Sunday October 26th at 7 pm in the Red Robinson Show Theatre in Coquitlam. Others on the star-studded lineup include: George Canyon, Gord Bamford, Jessie Farrell and Aaron Pritchett. The previous night, the BCCMA Industry Awards will take place at Gabby's in Langley, also at 7 pm. This night will be hosted by Nashville's Deric Ruttan. We've just returned from a whirlwind but fabulous time at the Canadian Country Music Awards in Winnipeg. The big news is that Eileen was voted by the membership as the 'Special Instrument Player of the Year' for her skills on the mandolin! Plus, we were honored to be nominated for Group or Duo of the Year and excited to participate in the live Awards Show, aired nationally on both the CBC and CMT.

We had a great time performing at various venues during CCMA Week, including FanFest, and the Gala Awards Dinner, sharing the stage with many of Canada's top country artists. And we want to send a special shout-out to our friends and label-mates Doc Walker for their multiple award wins!

We'd like to thank everyone at the CCMA, Open Road Recordings, and CMT for helping to make this a memorable experience. Also, thanks to our managers, DJ McLachlan and David Wills. And thanks to the staff and crews at The Forks, Casinos of Winnipeg, The Palomino, and Cowboy's for putting on awesome events.

And we especially want to thank all the new friends and fans we made during the week--hope to see y'all soon! Last of all-thanks to all the CCMA volunteers, from hospitality to the drivers--for making sure CCMA week was a success, for the performers and the fans--you rock!! We are looking forward to appearing in Ottawa with Randy Travis and meeting thousands of new friends as we head across the country again this weekend!

Eileen Wins a CCMA Award!

At the All-Star Band Awards & Jam night, Eileen was honoured with the CCMA Award for Special Instrument Player of the Year for the Mandolin. We were very surprised and excited by this acknowledgment of Eileen's talents. Eileen's mandolin playing is an integral part of The Higgins' sound and it is awesome for it to be recognized.

TWO CCMA NOMINATIONS!

What an amazing year so far! The CCMA nominations were just released, and The Higgins are nominated in two different categories! It's such an honor to be nominated for Group or Duo of the Year, alongside such great artists as Doc Walker, The Wilkinsons, Ambush, and Emerson Drive. Eileen is also nominated in the "Special Instrument" category for the CCMA All-Star Band Award!

It's already been a wild ride, with our debut single "Flower Child" climbing to #3 on the CMT charts and Top 15 on the Country radio charts, the release of our album, Real Thing, on Open Road/Universal, and our second single "Real Thing" already getting great response from country radio. We are so grateful to have our music and performances recognized by so many.

The Higgins' new CD, "Real Thing" will be officially released June 24th on Open Road Recordings. The Higgins kick off the release of "Real Thing" with a three day blitz of radio stations in Western Canada. Tuesday, June 24th kicks off with a visit to hometown supporters, JRFM. That night they wing off to Calgary, AB, where they'll be live on the Country 105 morning show June 25th at 7:45 am. That afternoon The Higgins will visit KG Country in Red Deer, AB, at 4:00pm. The next day - June 26 - they hit Edmonton, guesting on the CISN morning show at 7:45am. Later that day, The Higgins will perform a live acoustic set for the winners of the CISN Backyard BBQ. That's just the beginning - listen for The Higgins to appear on your favourite stations soon! Better yet, request them!

Flower Child Video Nominated for a Leo Award

Arkadia Pictures has received a Leo nomination for Best Video Of The Year.
The Higgins' "Flower Child", currently forging its way through the national video top 10, is the video that has acquired the coveted nod. Three years ago, director Stephano Barberis won the Leo for "Best Direction In A Music Video" in addition to three nominations for that very award. The Leo Awards are British Columbia's premier film and television awards and are held in Vancouver in late May.

We've been very busy over the last few months writing new material and playing some exciting shows!

Highlights include headlining St.Patrick's Day at the Cascades Casino Show Theatre in Langley, and performing for delegates at the OMMA Convention in Merritt, BC. We're also at work recording new material for a Summer 2007 release, and preparing for another trip to Nashville.

The Higgins Go Near East and Far East for concerts and showcases
We'll be racking up massive airmiles in the next few weeks! We have accepted an invitation to perform with the BC/Canada delegation as part of the Guangdong International Tourism Festival in Guangzhou, China. We will be performing in concert with acts from other Pacific Rim countries in several large venues including the 60,000 seat Tian-He Stadium. It's an awesome opportunity to see another part of the world and introduce our music to a new market. Check back soon as we'll be adding pictures from the trip!
 
At the beginning of December, we're heading down to Nashville to play a couple of music industry showcases. This is something we've been working toward for a long time. We're really looking forward to playing in Music City, making new friends and seeing the places where so many great performers got their start. Stay tuned and we'll tell you all about it!

The Higgins to Get Their Own Star on National TV
On Thursday morning September 28th, The Higgins will be awarded their very own star on the Merritt B.C. "Walk of Stars" (www.merrittwalkofstars.com). The event is tied in with the City of Merritt being chosen to be featured in Canada AM's 'Community Challenge'. Hundreds of communities from across the nation entered, and only four were chosen. Merritt prides itself in being 'the country music capital of Canada' through it's support of the Merritt Mountain Music Festival and it's famous Walk of Stars, rapidly becoming a major tourist attraction.
 
The Canada AM live broadcast begins at 6:30 a.m. from the Merritt Civic Arena, and airs on CTV affiliates across Canada. The group will be performing live, after which the star ceremony will take place.

The Higgins Nominated for BCCMA Award
We're pleased to announce we've been nominated in the Group/Duo of the Year category by the B.C. Country Music Association for their 2006 Awards. This is the second year in a row for this recognition, and we're quite honored. As part of the events weekend, we've been asked to perform at the Annual Director's Awards on Saturday, October 14th. You can find details on the evening on our Events page. The CBC will be airing a pair of performances soon. On Sunday Sept. 17th CBC TV will air an encore performance of our "Make Some Noise" show featuring the song "Hey Girl". And in the coming weeks CBC Radio One will rebroadcast part of our Sounds Like Summer concert from July.

New Dates Announced for Summer 2006!
We are excited to announce the first of what looks to be a great summer of performances coming up. Over the Canada Day long weekend, June 30-July 2nd, we'll be at the long-running CountryFest in Dauphin, Manitoba. Over three days, we'll be appearing on all three stages, including a Friday mainstage show that features Terri Clark and Lisa Brokop.
 
On Thursday July 13th we've been invited back to rock the mainstage at Merritt Mountainfest, this year opening for the one and only Big N' Rich! This is one we're really looking forward to!
 
On Saturday August 5th, we head south for the Oregon Jamboree in Sweet Home, OR. This is the biggest country festival in the area, and we'll be part of a lineup that features Randy Travis, Gretchen Wilson, Carrie Underwood and the legendary Charley Pride.

To celebrate the 93rd Grey Cup, The Higgins will be taking part in the Save-on-Foods Grey Cup parade through downtown Vancouver on November 26th. The Higgins Nominated for 2 BCCMA Awards
We are pleased to announce that we've been nominated in two categories in the 2005 B.C. Country Music Association Awards--Group/Duo of the year, and the McAuley Horizon Award for new group of the year. We'd like to thank the BCCMA for their continued efforts in furthering the country music scene in B.C. This year's awards are being held on October 16th at the Bell Centre for the Arts in Surrey, B.C.

The Higgins Co-Headlining War Child Canada Concert
We've just been asked to appear at a concert to benefit War Child Canada at Burnaby's James Cowan Theatre on Friday, Sept. 23rd. We're co-headlining with Ben Sigston (Matthew Good Band). CCMA Gospel Show Performance
The Higgins have been chosen to perform at the prestigious Gospel Showcase at the Canadian Country Music Awards in Calgary on September 11th. They will be part of a star studded lineup performing an acoustic show leading up to the CCMA Awards the following night. Also, The Higgins were voted one of the favourite regional performers in a post-event poll taken of fans and musicians following this year's Merritt MountainFest.

Management Deal
On January 17th 2005, The Higgins signed a management contract with DJ McLachlan and W.Tom Berry (McLachlan | Berry International) out of Nashville, New York and Toronto. DJ McLachlan and W.Tom Berry have extensive industry experience managing acts such as Jerry Douglas, Holly Cole, Earl Scruggs and Gino Vannelli.

The Higgins to Showcase At NewMusicWest 2004
The Higgins have been chosen to showcase at two venues as part of NewMusicWest 2004, the largest music showcase event in western Canada. On Wednesday evening, November 10th, the group will be performing at The Arts Club Backstage Lounge, 1585 Johnston St, Granville Island (showtime 10 pm). Then on Sunday November 14th, they'll journey out to Surrey to headline at the beautiful new Central City Brew Pub (showtime 7pm). If you're in the greater vancouver area, come on out and enjoy some great music!

Upcoming CD Release!
The Higgins have finished their 6-song EP which contains five originals and two bonus videos. The CD is called "Wild Minds" and was produced and mixed by Mike Fraser, who has worked with music legends Aerosmith, Mettalica and Joe Satriani. The Higgins Perform at Merritt
The Higgins kicked off this years Merritt Mountainfest by opening the Main Stage with the national anthems and a dynamic opening set. The band was thrilled to play for so many die hard country fans and to share the stage with stars like Jason McCoy and The Wilkinsons. Vancouver Province music writer John P. McLaughlin included The Higgins in his "favourite five" Merritt acts along with Brad Paisley, The Mavericks and Brooks & Dunn. Guitarist John Higgins stated, "Just to be mentioned on the same page as those artists is a huge honor and a great challenge to just keep learning and improving."

New CD Coming Soon
The group is working on an EP CD scheduled for release early this summer. Well known producer Mike Fraser (Joe Satriani, Aerosmith, AC/DC) has taken charge of the project, and will be producing the EP. It will feature great new tunes written and co-written by The Higgins.
